Breakfasting with The Senators
I came to Washington DC to speak at the Intenational Association for Near-Death Studies (IANDS) World Conference at Georgetown University.
I was on the board of the that organization at the time and was working as a researcher and writer on the after-effects of Near-Death Experiences.
The Exchange Club of Capital Hill heard we were going to be coming to Washington and asked IANDS to send a speaker for a Senate breakfast meeting. I accepted the invitation.
I talked about our research and told the story of my personal Near-Death Experiences. I explained that what I experienced is representative of what most people report of their NDEs. I also described the after-effects of NDEs and the profound effect they have on people.
One person who was a subject of our study was a Mafia "hitman" or, as he called it, a "bag man" who had gone through a Near-Death Experience. The effects of the NDE on his life were so overwhelming and life-changing that he couldn't go back to his old way of life and dubious occupation.
His life was so affected and the effects so great that he went to work as a volunteer, helping disabled persons afterwards. | | .

Speaking in the Senate
Breakfast Chamber .As I was speaking, I saw the look in the older, retired Senators' faces soften. I saw their heads nod as they started relating to my story and to our research findings. I could actually watch them relax into my talk.
At the conclusion, their questions were informed and friendly. I was pleasantly surprised that no one tried their hand at "amateur debunking," as sometimes occurs when one talks about Near-Death Experiences.
The Senators thanked me many times afterwards, and presented me with a beautiful wooden plaque in appreciation of my talk. It was a wonderful and thoughtful gift, by these powerful men
It meant a lot to me to have them give me something that I could always reflect back on to remember that special day!
