Looking back at Breakfasting with The Senators
I remember that when I arrived, I was immediately impressed by the ornate opulence of the Capital, and even the Senator's breakfast room
where the Senators take their morning meal.

The hallways --even the back hallways were highly decorated with immense relief sculptures and covered in gold leaf.

I was astounded by the richness of it all and couldn't stop looking around as I was guided through a maze of corridors.

I recall thinking how much this must have cost, since I was running on financial fumes at the time.

I thought: the senators must receive an awful lot of money even after retirement compared to the average social security check. That's quite a lifestyle. A friend of mine once said, "It's a good gig if you can get it!."

I used to joke about how the Brits paid a fortune to keep the Royalty of England in-style and, suddenly, looking around, I realized that we're not that far removed from our British cousins!

.And at the same time, part of me realized that I was walking through
halls of history. I love American History and I was now completely immersed in it, walking among the portraits of great men who built and guided our country.

I remembered feeling the power of the greatness of this landmark -- how
much history is created here.

The whole experience of walking through those halls was overwhelming.

That day, while talking before the Senators and the retired senators, I realized that, as the philosopher said, I was standing with these men, on the shoulders of giants.
